Unit 3

    Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing), where do you rate your A-physical wellbeing, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?
A: Physical well-being – 7 – I am physically trying to eat healthy and keep a very regular workout schedule, but there is always room for improvement. I am hard on myself when it comes to physical well-being and therefore see a 10 as unreachable.
B: Spiritual well-being – 5 - I feel the most spiritually healthy when I am fully indulged in the outdoors and just amazed by my surroundings, but unfortunately this does not happen as often as I would like it to. Things like the beach, hiking, kayaking, etc. really just put me in that spiritual place.
C: Psychological well-being – 8 – my life is going to be changing very drastically within the next two months and my work and living situations are fairly stressful, but that being said I tend to thrive off of stress and enjoy a feeling of purpose in a full plate.
    Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological).
      Physical goal: I ship off for the military at the end of August and my goal is to be well above the military physical testing standards. I want to push myself to reach a high level of physical fitness.
      Spiritual goal: I want to get the closeness to nature feeling I get and the wash of pure awe and relaxation at least twice a month.
      Psychological goal: I am fairly happy with where I remain psychologically, but I will end my current job soon and my living situation will change, so that will help with the issues I currently have. I just want to remain confident in the person that I am and continue to live life.
    What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?
Physically I have already begun to implement more physically challenging workout routines and integrate more variety. Spiritually I want to get out to the ocean, mountains and other scenic areas more often, especially as the warmer months are around. Finally, psychologically I want to just accept what I have in my life and be happy in what it is until I can change what I want to change. I am almost there, but find myself getting hung up on small things at times.

While I found the man’s voice calming, I have never really connected to the color techniques. I seem to identify more with breathing and focusing on the body or even going through nature scenes. I have a more difficult time feeling secure in the method when picture beams of different color lights. I get lost in the metaphors instead of really losing myself in the exercise.

  2. First and foremost thank you for your service to this great country and please trya and get more spirituality than twice a month. I'm assuming your physical testing is something they allow you to train for and your know what your up against? I sure hope they do so you can get yourself ready. I have always found that training with goals in mind is a helpful method to stay focused. It's interesting reading about the spirituality of people and the vastly different ideas and thoughts that word brings out in people. My personal favorite is that religion is for people scared of going to hell and spirituality is for people who have already been there. I'm so in awe of your ability to stay mentally strong in the military. It makes me realize how soft of a person I am living in the paradise called southern California where my biggest fear is how cold the ocean might be. Thanks again for all you do and good luck.

  3. Awesome post! It is nice to know that someone also feels very spiritual when in the outdoors. I am all about being either in the water or one the mountains. I wish you could get out more often! I think it would really help you both spiritually and physically. Although you enjoy having a full plate, it may be good to have a little extra space and time for yourself!

Well here I go, I unfortunately wrote you a big comment and then when I went to sign in my information was lost and I sit here finding myself trying to figure out the exact words that I stated before! This would be one of those complex yet small intricate tasks that I found myself wrapped into a ball and difficulty untangling. I can't help but think of a cat when I say those words...moving on! I think you are an amazing woman with going into the Military in August and even though I don't know you personally, I have no doubt that you will be ahead of the game in the physical strength and fitness portion as you stated as one of your objectives. I also found that I rated myself lower in the Spiritual aspect of wellbeing than I thought because I feel like I should be part of a church community before being considered spiritual, but I highly doubt that I am speaking the truth as we know that spiritual aspects come in many various shapes and sizes or words and ways. You are not the first person to speak that the color of the relaxation exercise had no benefit to you. However, it is something that you didn't forget about because he kept repeating it over and over again on where the light shined and from each of the seven specific centers. I think you should remember those 7 centers when you are in the military training just in case you get stuck and need a color or place to reflect on and move forward. Great post!

  5. I also found his voice calming. I enjoyed reading your blog. Honestly his voice made me sleepy lol. I think it is great that you are integrating more of a variety. Congrats on the military. I wish you much success! God bless you for serving our country.

  6. I can relate to the feeling of being spiritual in nature. Seems like the only time i can really calm my mind is while out and about hiking, camping, snowboarding, beach sessions, etc. It feels like there is some type of connection that brings me complete peace. Kinda neat. Im out in CA in the Temecula area and it seems like im right next to all the things I enjoy yet I never find the time to indulge like i should. I would have to agree with you on the whole meditation thing, it was sort of distracting and the mans voice was choppy. Either way interesting post and very clear to read!

  7. Hannah, I enjoyed reading your post. I liked how you mentioned being outdoors as your spiritual wellbeing. A lot of people think about their form of God when they think of spiritual wellbeing, I enjoyed your take on it.
    I too had a hard time with the exercise. I found myself getting slightly frustrated trying to envision these things; which is the opposite effect as we were going for.

  8. Wonderful post! I do have to say that I feel the same way as you. I LOVE being outside by the ocean or in the wilderness. It is so peaceful and soothing. I don't really get that chance too often either but I think when I'm older ill be able to choose where I am most comfortable and happiest and that would be the perfect time to finally live near the ocean or on top of a mountain with views all around me. I think starting off 2 times a month for spiritual relaxation is a good goal but try to increase it little by little to where you can have a few minutes each day.
